Matthew 9:35-38 (KJV)
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Church is Not a Place—It’s a Person
Many people think the church is just a building—a place you go to on Sunday, a service you attend, something separate from your everyday life. But when Jesus did His work, He wasn’t in a church building.
- He was in the cities and villages.
- He was among the people.
- He was teaching, healing, and moving in His purpose.
The church is not a physical location—it is a people who carry out God’s work.
That means you are the church. Wherever you go, the presence of God goes with you. If you have a relationship with God, you are His living temple.
But here’s the problem: In our neighborhoods, the church buildings are full, but the streets outside are still full of lost and weary people.
If we, as the church, are doing our job, why are so many people still struggling?
The Personal Responsibility to Spread What You Learn
Jesus taught everywhere He went. He didn’t just perform miracles and move on—He shared knowledge so that the people could grow.
That means when you go to church and learn something, it is not just for you.
- If God reveals something to you, it is your job to share it.
- If you experience healing and transformation, it is your job to testify.
- If you receive wisdom, it is your job to pour into others.
Too many people go to church, receive the Word, and keep it to themselves. But the gospel was never meant to be hoarded. If it truly changes you, then you should want others to experience that same transformation.
The Multitude is the Lost, the Broken, and the Weary
Matthew 9:36 says that when Jesus saw the multitude, He was moved with compassion.
Why?
Because they were weary and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.
That is the same condition of the world today. People are:
- Tired of struggling.
- Lost with no direction.
- Empty because they don’t have a real relationship with God.
And yet, they don’t even know what they’re missing.
Jesus saw the people. He noticed their condition. He cared.
So the question is: Do we see them? Do we notice the lost and broken people in our own communities?
Or are we too focused on ourselves to move with the same compassion that Jesus did?
Compassion is an Action, Not Just a Feeling
Jesus didn’t just feel sorry for the people—He moved.
That means true compassion requires action.
It is not enough to feel bad for someone. It is not enough to shake your head and say, “That’s a shame.”
If God has given you the ability to help, then you have a responsibility to do something.
And that brings us to the harvest.
The Harvest is Plenteous, But the Laborers are Few
Jesus said in Matthew 9:37, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.”
Let’s break this down:
What is the Harvest?
The harvest represents the people who are ready to receive God’s word, healing, and transformation. They are everywhere—people who are:
- Looking for purpose.
- Searching for healing.
- Longing for something greater.
They are ready to be gathered.
What Does Plenteous Mean?
It means abundant, overflowing, more than enough.
There is no shortage of people who need God’s truth. There is no shortage of people who are ready to change their lives.
The problem isn’t the harvest. The problem is the laborers.
God Qualifies and Makes Us Available
Many people hesitate to do God’s work because they feel unqualified.
But God does not call the qualified—He qualifies the called.
If God gives you an assignment, He has already given you what you need to carry it out.
The real question is: Are you available?
- Are you making yourself available for God to use?
- Or are you making excuses about why you can’t?
Availability is more important than ability. God can work through anyone who is willing to be used.
Some people may think the idea of a Hoodoo church is blasphemy, but I’m not here to please people—I’m here to do God’s will. While they sit in judgment, what work are they actually doing?
People get caught up in titles, tradition, and what they think is “right” while missing the deeper truth—God moves how He wants to move. The same people who call a Hoodoo church blasphemy will sit in a lifeless church every Sunday with no power, no healing, and no movement of God.
But I know what He told me to do. I know my calling.
Why Do People Go to Church but Have No Relationship with God?
There are a million churches in every city, yet people still:
- Feel lost.
- Struggle with depression.
- Live without purpose.
Why?
Because church attendance does not equal relationship.
You can sit in a church every Sunday and never experience God for yourself. You can read the Bible and never apply what it says.
This is why the modern church is weak. It is full of people who listen but do not act.
The Church is Weak Because it is Not Spiritual
The early church was full of power. People were:
- Being healed.
- Receiving the Holy Spirit.
- Performing miracles.
Now, we have churches where people just show up, sit down, and leave unchanged.
Why?
Because the church has become more about routine than relationship.
If the church was truly moving in the power of God, lives would not remain the same.
Without Vision, You Perish
"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." — Proverbs 29:18
Without divine vision, people wander aimlessly through life. They chase after things that don’t fulfill them. They fall into cycles of confusion, stagnation, and spiritual death.
The enemy doesn’t need to destroy you—he just needs to keep you lost.
- If you don’t know who you are, you have no identity.
- If you don’t know where you’re going, you have no direction.
- If you don’t know your purpose, you will never fulfill it.
But God gives vision. He reveals the blueprint to those who seek Him. The Word is not just a book—it is a map, a guide, a code for breaking free from the matrix.
If you feel lost, you don’t need more distractions—you need revelation.
Are you moving with vision, or are you just moving?
Joshua 1:3 – Stepping Into Authority
"Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses." (Joshua 1:3)
If God has called you to do something, He has already given you the authority to do it.
But you have to step into it.
Stop waiting for permission. Stop waiting for people to believe in you. If God gave you the vision, it is already yours.
The Word of God is Transformative
If people are hearing the Word but not changing, then something is wrong.
- The Word should bring conviction.
- The Word should bring transformation.
- The Word should produce fruit in your life.
The Church is Full of Seats
The church is full of seats—not just physically, but spiritually.
God is sitting people down because they need to be still and listen.
People are walking around spiritually dead, thinking they have life just because they show up to a church building. But God is in the business of resurrection. He wants to fill those empty seats with His Spirit and bring people back to life.
Before movement comes stillness. Before resurrection comes death.
If God has you sitting down, it’s because He’s preparing to wake you up.
Conclusion: I Am Not Speaking From a Book—But From a God I KNOW
I don’t just believe in God because I read about Him.
I believe because I have experienced Him.
- I too was spiritually dead, and He resurrected me.
- I was lost, and He gave me direction.
- I was empty, and He filled me with His Spirit.
And now, I am ready to do the work of the church.
Are you?
